This weekend was so great! We all rode our bikes to the ISB soccer fields to kick the ball around and get ready for team tryouts. #1) It is so great to be able to just hop on your bikes and get to the school in 3 minutes and #2) The facilities at this school are world class!! We had a good time and worked up a sweat (yes, me included. Kelly makes us all practice) so we decided to go take a dip in the club house pool. We followed that up with a dinner party at some works friends of Kelly's. It was a superb day all around!
On Sunday we got up and feasted on Kelly's famous Malt-O-Meal. This is what he ALWAYS feeds the girls on game day! The girls both had Club Football tryouts that morning. Ella was on the pitch first. There were only 2 girls out of the 50+ boys there. She did really well! You never had a problem finding her on the field. Long, blonde ponytail flying and a 1000 watt smile on her face, but don't let that fool you. This girl will go for blood if she has too! We will hear Wednesday about the results. Keep your fingers crossed...........all though I am not too worried..
Julia was up next. She had her A game going on, which was good considering she was one of 2 girls there as well. They divided into small teams and Julia was with 5 other boys that all spoke German. She was a little irritated that she couldn't understand them but believe me they understood her loud and clear. After her first rocket of a goal, everyone there was in tune to her. The coaches were all a little taken back on the side lines, laughing in surprise. At the end of the tryout her new coach Ian came over to me and said he was really excited to be coaching her. He gave her "the most brilliant goal of the day" award. I will apologize now for bragging but we were just so proud of the both of the girls. This has been the toughest transition of the whole move. The girls loved their Moline United teams so much that leaving that, only to come here and find out they have to play with boys to keep up that level of competition was a bitter pill to take. There was A LOT of tears and frustration to get to the point of realizing that if they want to play with their teammates when we return, they had better step out of their comfort zone and do whatever it takes. We can't wait to hear the results of tryouts and it looks as though Kelly may be recruited as well! (as if there was ever any doubt of him stepping back and not coaching) BTW....he is still keeping tabs on all of the Moline United teams every week! LOL
We followed up with a wonderful barbecue with a couple of Australian families in our neighborhood. We all have 2 daughters each, the same ages! They girls are all great friends and we had a fun and relaxing evening!
